Only lately I realized how customizable and flexible Infinite Unlimited difficulty is. I immediately started playing with 5 letters default setting without timer and hints after installing it. Everything was great until I got tired of it and decided to try 7 letters with 30 seconds timer activated. That is how one and the same game instantly became impossible for me. Time, word length, and hints form the difficulty of the game, and understanding how they affect each other is the key to mastering them completely.

Word Length Slider Is the Starting Point of Your Difficulty

Word length is the most obvious variable that affects the difficulty of the game. Available range on wordleunlimited spans from 3 letters (Kid mode) to 7 letters, and the difference between these modes is enormous. 4-letter word can be guessed within 2-3 attempts if you are warmed up enough, whereas 7-letter word solution requires knowledge about vowels position, common suffixes ("tion", "ing") and letter frequency. During experimenting with all possible combinations I figured out that 5 letters is the best choice for casual game, 6 letters – for something more difficult and 7 letters drive me crazy to the point of making mistakes. Kid mode with 3 letters proved to be extremely useful as I tried it with my niece, and she guessed puzzles faster than I expected.

Enabling Timer Makes Everything Completely Different

Timer feature is the most interesting one, although it took some time to learn how to utilize it correctly. Three options are available – 1 minute, 1 and a half minute and 2 minutes, and their effect on your game varies depending on the word length setting you choose. 2 minutes are sufficient for 5-letter mode and you can spend your time to think of the strategy and pick up correct vowel heavy opener. But 1 minute for 6-letter mode means that you have to think under pressure and guess the word randomly. The main thing to remember about this feature is that you can use it as training mode. If you want to train your ability to recognize patterns then all you have to do is to set 1 minute timer for 5-letter mode and play as many rounds as you wish until you get used to it. This method is a kind of HIIT for your vocabulary.

Hints Feature: The Balancing Tool Nobody Uses

Now let's talk about hints feature, which is rarely used by everyone. In Settings you should click the light bulb icon and if you activate hints function, you'll get 2 hints per round. At first I regarded this as cheating, but after some time I came to conclusion that 7 letters with 30 seconds timer definitely require help. Hint does not give you answer, it just reveals one letter, and you still have to solve the puzzle. The advantage of this feature is that it gives you freedom of choice. You can enable hints function if you are learning with someone. Or disable them if you want to test yourself. There is nothing that forces you to use hints.

Crafting Your Own Difficulty Setting

In general, this is how I use Wordle Unlimited now after numerous games. For me, easy mode is 4 or 5 letters, no timer, hints enabled – ideal for casual game, when you are in a bus somewhere and want to relax. Medium mode is 5 or 6 letters, no timer, hints disabled – my default setting. Hard mode is 6 or 7 letters with 1 minute timer, hints enabled because I need them at this level. Expert mode is 7 letters, 1-minute timer, hints disabled – I am failing at this level in 60% of cases, and this is my goal. The best thing about this game is that nobody limits you by the difficulty that someone thinks to be normal in Wordle Unlimited. Craft your own difficulty and enjoy it. If it is too hard, you can make it easier in the next game session.
